This was the longest oversize load ever transported in Pomeranian district, Poland. 50 meters long and 5,88 meters wide – these are the dimensions of the truck&trailer with load – ship-to-shore crane boom which was transported by SCANDINAVIAN EXPRESS Poland on Sunday, 30th of October, 2016.
Despite the fact that the road was only 5 km long, transport of this weighing almost 70 tones steel element took nearly 3 hours. Part of the road was driven backwards.
„When we plan the transport of such big elements, the most demanding part is detailed schedule of each section of the road – says Waldemar Pomian, Manager of the Oversize Loads Department, SCANDINAVIAN EXPRESS. – We verify whether it is possible for the trailer to pass the planned route. In this particular situation we had to move backwards on the part of the highway linking the Port of Gdynia to the Tricity beltway and therefore A1 motorway.”
It was possible thanks to the precision and self-control of people taking part in this project. It could take even 10 people to coordinate such transport. Stress is giant.
„When we start the operations, nothing else matters – explains Roman Jakubik, pilot and oversize loads consultant in SCANDINAVIAN EXPRESS. – We all know exactly what to do, but still we fear that something may go wrong.”
Part of the ship-to-shore crane is one of four produced by the Vistal Offshore for the German client. The part transported on 30th of October was the biggest one.
